Public International Law is the study of how nation states interact with each other and how they interact with International Institutions. This course shall study a number of issues within the realm of public international law such as the sources of public international law, jurisdiction, statehood & recognition, dispute settlement, use of force and much more.
INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL LAW
International Criminal Law is the study of some of the most serious crimes that shock the conscience of humanity. In this course we shall look at the origins of modern international criminal law at Nuremberg, its development in the 1990s with the ICTY & ICTR, its current institutional state, as well as the study of the substanvie crimes of international criminal law: genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes and aggression.
INTERNATIONAL HUMANITARIAN LAW
International Humanitarian Law is the regulation of actions, conduct and protections during periods of armed conflict. In this course we're going to be looking at the sources of International Humanitarian Law, the distinction between Combatants and Non-Combatants, the distinction between international and non-international armed conflicts as well as much more.
INTERNATIONAL TRADE LAW
International Trade law is fundamentally the study of the World Trade Organisation. In this course, we shall explore the institutional structure of the World Trade Organisation, rules of non-disrimination, dispute settlement, trade in services and much more.
INTERNATIONAL LAW OF THE SEA
This course will provide a detailed analysis of the public international law regulating the world's seas and oceans.
INTERNATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS LAW
The Global Human Rights settlement is one which is ever developing and evolving. This course shall provide a detailed analysis of International Human Rights Law.
INTERNATIONAL INVESTMENT LAW
This course shall focus on the topic of global capital flows. Specifically, we shall be exploring the law and regulation of foreign direct investment, the extent that this achieved by bilateral investment treaties (BITs) and the content of said treaties.
INTERNATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL LAW
The protection of the environment is arguably the most important issue facing the world to this day. International Environmental law is just one instrument of environmental regulation that we can utilise to help protect our climate.
INTERNATIONAL COMPANY LAW
Companies crossing borders is an increasingly challenging aspects of international law. The regulation of international companies is difficult when there exists an international conflict of laws. This course shall explore the regulation of companies at an international level, as well as the regulation of corporate insolvency at an international level.
